SHAKA ZULUS GUIDE TO BETTER MUSIC AND LIVING
this months album stereo thrashing!!!!
SPARTA-Wire Tap Scars

hmmmmm.....Sparta, well for those of you not aware, Sparta are the boys who were once previously known as "At The Drive In" minus a couple of the members, who have now jumped ship. When I first heard that the album was going to be released, i must admit I was thrilled by the possibility of snapping my neck again. Fully expecting to seriously injure myself, I quickly dashed to HMV and bought the album out right at a massive 17 quid. Hey... 17 quid seemed like a small price to pay for a life times worth of audio agony/mayhem. I entered my room put on my stereo on a massive volume of 27 out of 30 and found myself in a cold sweat of excitement.... truly dissapointed I turned it off after track 3... However, it has grown on me and has now made it back on the rack of easy listening while my friends smoke entire Arboretums and I drown myself in Tequila. If you think your gonna get "At The Drive In" forget it, this is alot more chilled out. The agressive crazyness is definitely gone, though some elements are still remain. Screams and crazy guitar noises are out and melodic tunes and a keyboard are in... I feel Sparta are somewhat like the Starship Enterprise being pioleted by a very conservative maggie Thatcher...I won't totally slag this album as it has grown on me, however it might take a couple of listens to make it any good. I'll give it a very comforting 6 5/8ths.

THE GIG GURU THIS MONTH
AUDIOSLAVE @ BRIXTON ACADEMY

The almighty Audioslave. It was not what i expected! Being a die hard Soundgarden fan, I had a hard time coming to terms with the fact they split up, it sort of felt like losing a gonad (evethough i still have two... Still). Anyway I'm slowly veering away from the story here, after a long wait they finally came on, just to see my childhood idol in front of me made me feel a more complete being, dont know why, guess I'm a sad man. And then to have the rest of Rage aswell... well fuck me sideways. They did everthing I expected them to do; rock your pants off blah blah blah, but I felt it was a tad commercialised and prefabricated. It was more of a Cornell & Morello show than Audioslave as a band. I caught myself tapping to a fat riff half way through the gig and thought "hey didnt they open with that song???". I find their music has that effect: different song, yet its the same riff, this is very confusing after 6 pints. I thought it was good but not really all that its hyped up to be.
I give them 7 and 4/6ths out of ten.

Next Month....
I go apeshit over
MONDO GENERATOR
(Nick Oliveri's side project)
and might catch a gig in Londonium!!!!.
